Join the Conversation – Spring 2017 series:

All are held on the fourth Thursday of each month March through June, at 7:30pm at the SETAUKET NEIGHBORHOOD HOUSE: Topics include those that received considerable attention during the meetings of the 25A Corridor Study Citizens Advisory Committee and the Visionings. The purpose of this series is to provide opportunities for interested members of the community to explore in greater depth one of the topics, discover the choices for the future, and express concerns and ideas.

 June 22:

Plum Island: Conservation on a Small IslandLouise Harrison will present a "Virtual Tour" of Plum Island after showing a short film, "Conservation on a Small Island," that features actor Sam Waterston and numerous members of the Preserve Plum Island Coalition. She also will provide an update on the campaign to save Plum Island from sale by the federal government to the highest bidder, give a short history of the island, and highlight discoveries made by the New York Natural Heritage Program in 2015 during their four-season biodiversity inventory. She looks forward to discussing your ideas for grassroots and other activities in which you may be willing to participate to ensure Plum Island’s rich natural, cultural, and historical resources are forever protected. Louise Harrison works as the New York Natural Areas Coordinator for Save the Sound. A conservation biologist and former 30-year resident of the Three Villages, Louise has served on Long Island in federal, state, and county agencies as well as in leadership and consulting positions for not-for-profit environmental organizations. Louise now lives in Peconic on the North Fork. This event is co-sponsored by Setauket Harbor Task Force and Friends of Flax Pond.
