Julia’s Corner

Located at the intersection of Christian Avenue and North Country Road, Julia’s Corner is the half- acre property that was the garden of Julia de Zafra. A meticulous horticulturalist, Julia planted a wide variety of flowers that bloomed throughout the year to the delight of the community.

Julia Philips-Quagliata was a well-respected and beloved professor and medical researcher at New York University. She and her husband Dr. Robert de Zafra lived in the adjacent home at 70 Christian Avenue. Julia and Robert were highly regarded for their lifelong passion to preserve and protect the historical character of our North Shore area.

At one time, Julia’s Corner was the site of a livery stable for the horse drawn coach taking visitors from the Stony Brook Train Station to nearby hotels and inns.

“Julia’s Corner” was gifted by Julia to the Three Village Community Trust and the Three Village Historical Society – two organizations very important to her and her husband. The beautiful open space of Julia’s Corner is a lasting legacy to a life well-lived.
