Dr. Robert and Julia de Zafra Estate
Built in the late 1800’s, this historic home sits at the “crossroads of the community.” An amazing number of important art, history, museum and science centers are near this property.
Dr. Robert de Zafra, a Stony Brook University physicist, researched the earth’s ozone layer. His work with his research team, led to the Montreal Protocols that banned the man-made chemicals that were destroying the atmosphere. Dr. Julia de Zafra was a professor and researcher for decades at New York University, helping to mentor generations of scientists.
Dr. Robert de Zafra was a leading activist in the community, championing historic preservation and good government. He was a founding member of the Three Village Community Trust and continually advocated “Protecting the Places You Love.” Today, the Trust owns three historic de Zafra homes.
