A Passport to Summer Adventure
Many parents are always looking for a fun and engaging learning activity for the whole family. The Three Village Community Trust’s latest publication titled Passport to Historical and Cultural Sites – The 250 Year Celebration of America Edition could be the perfect ‘ticket’ to a unique family experience.
With more than 60 pages of our area’s most significant historical and cultural sites, along with a map, checkoff list and cut-out symbols – kids of all ages can immerse themselves in an experience of discovery by visiting those places that define our community.
The Passport to Historical and Cultural Sites takes readers on a tour through time that will, undoubtedly, lead to a greater understanding of this special place we call home. The Passport is designed to expand the user’s knowledge and appreciation of our unique area, making history and culture come “alive.”
The Passport is part of the nationwide celebration of 250 years of American Independence. Enjoy celebrating America’s 250th Anniversary by using the Passport to visit the unique places found on its pages and become inspired to “Protect the Places You Love.”
Several years ago, then Suffolk County Legislator Kara Hahn spearheaded the effort to create a “Parks Passport,” which identified the parks throughout Suffolk’s north shore area and encouraged families and their children to visit as many of them as possible.
The Three Village Community Trust’s Passport to Historical and Cultural Sites is an outgrowth of the Suffolk County Parks Passport project. Kara Hahn’s office started the work of this Historical and Cultural Passport before handing off the project to the Three Village Community Trust to complete! The Passport to Historical and Cultural Sites benefited from the input and support of Town Councilman Jonathan Kornreich. NYS Assemblywoman Rebecca Kassay’s emphasis on America’s 250 Anniversary Celebration helped frame the writing of key parts of the Passport. Current Suffolk County Legislator Steve Englebright, a champion of the project as a means to promote learning of local history, was instrumental in securing grant money for the printing of the Passport! Passports are now available at the Trust’s Bruce House Headquarters!
Please Note: We are now working on our America 250 Commemorative Edition – Passport to Cultural and Historic Sites, to be published in time for our country’s Semiquincentennial celebrations. We realize we did not include many important sites in our original Passport edition. Our apologies to all. Our Commemorative Edition will have more sites, more features and will be even more fun – for “children of all ages!”
